Never twice

Across the room
smoke filled and dense
I spied your hands
And across time
lyrical and damaged
I spied your hands
I saw your hands
as they opened the door
on the first date
I slipped a ring
on your finger
and held your hand close
Dizzy heights reached
petals unfurled
around your hands
Your hand
crushed in mine
as two became three
The hands that grasped the glass
tilted the bottle
amber fire poured
Reaching for me
the fist
seeking
A palm that silences
reddens surfaces
and repels
Your hands held mine
strained
we heard the crack
Hands stuffed me
unwillingly
in that velvet envelope
I was delivered
never to return
by your hands
My eyes strolled
from hands to eyes
across the room,
dense and smoky
And I saw our story
blue and cold
from end to beginning
Untethered, drink down
Door behind me
our history done before it is born.

Swampy

wet velvet in
your lungs
the swamp
rises up to meet
your eyes
thicker than
motor oil
resistance
slows
your struggles
a crocodiles eyes you
plans his
meal
can’t comprehend
giving
thanks

The Wasting

I close my eyes
my brain leaks
Anxiety
Sepia landscapes
Plants gasping
We flee
a Malice
Unknown
Breath stolen
a trail unmoving
We drive
Speeding
The car melts into a bicycle
Pedaling furiously
the sand yields
The bicycle fades
And we run
falling
crawling
The trail never moving
Plunged into water
never seen
I hold your hand
We breathe
slowly
Icy fire fills my lungs
as we break the surface.
In my dream
I watch from a distance
A trail that never moves
I awaken
Furtive
Shifting
and your breathing
rhythmic
Soothes me
