The Wasting

I close my eyes
my brain leaks
Anxiety
Sepia landscapes
Plants gasping
We flee
a Malice
Unknown
Breath stolen
a trail unmoving
We drive
Speeding
The car melts into a bicycle
Pedaling furiously
the sand yields
The bicycle fades
And we run
falling
crawling
The trail never moving
Plunged into water
never seen
I hold your hand
We breathe
slowly
Icy fire fills my lungs
as we break the surface.
In my dream
I watch from a distance
A trail that never moves
I awaken
Furtive
Shifting
and your breathing
rhythmic
Soothes me
